Continue reading for our top tips.

  1. To ensure protection, give yourself plenty of time (4-6 weeks) before your trip to get all necessary vaccinations and verify that prescriptions (such as anti-malarial drugs) are up-to-date.
  2. If you are traveling by car, make sure there is plenty of room in the back seat for luggage and an emergency preparedness kit.
  3. Stay well rested. Experts recommend adults get at least 7 hours of sleep a night1
  4. Wash your hands frequently. Count to 20 seconds while you wash with soap and warm water2. If soap and water are not available, it’s as effective to use alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  5. Manage your stress levels. Holidays can be overwhelming! Ensure to have a support system, connect socially, and get plenty of sleep2.
  6. Stay current on your health exams and wellness screenings. Reach out to your healthcare provider if you are unsure what needs to be done2.
  7. Be mindful of gatherings between people who have traveled from different places and those who are from different generations3. Even those who are fully vaccinated should wear a mask in public indoor settings in communities with substantial to high transmission.
  8. Do not drink and drive. Plan ahead and arrange a safe mode of transportation to and from your holiday events2
  9. Eat healthy, stay mobile. Eat fruits and vegetables packed with nutrients. Limit your portion sizes and be aware of high intake of fat, salt, and sugar. Plus, adults should aim to be active for at least 2½ hours/week and kids and teens should be active for at least 1 hour/day.
