SURECO WANTS YOU TO STAY SUN SAFE

This summer, keep safe in the sun

Summer is here, and while we want you to enjoy your time outside, we also want you to protect your skin from the sun. In July, UV Safety Month is observed to encourage people to protect their skin during the hot summer days when UV rays are at their peak. SureCo is here to provide you with some sun safety tips.

Plan for Outdoor Activity

If you are planning to be outside from 10 am to 4 pm, plan accordingly! The sunbeams are most powerful during those hours. Sunscreen, proper clothing, a hat, and sunglasses are excellent ways to limit sun exposure during that period.

Use SPF Sunscreen

Experts recommend using a minimum of SPF 15 sunscreen, applying the proper amount, and reapplying every 2 hours for the best protection. Because children’s skin is more sensitive, experts suggest using a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.

THE SPF (Sun Protection Factor) scale is not linear:

  • SPF 15 blocks 90% of UVB rays
  • SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays
  • SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays

When choosing sunscreen, search for non-nano ingredients. Due of the risk of inhalation, avoid using in powder or spray form. Creams are preferred. Oxybenzone, Octinoxate, and Homosalate are active ingredients to avoid.

 Get to know your Skin

Early detection of skin cancer makes treatment easier, so get to know your skin and keep an eye out for changes. Look for new skin markings, including moles, lumps, or areas where your skin color has changed. You should also keep a close eye out for when the markings continue to bleed, refuse to heal, or appear to be distinct from any other growth you have. If you observe any of these changes, contact your doctor right away.

 Be Cautious with Medication

Several over-the-counter and prescription medications, such as antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, diabetes medication, blood pressure medication, and pain relievers, may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, increasing your risk of blistering or sunburns. If you notice any changes, be sure to talk to your doctor.

SureCo is proud to recognize UV Safety Awareness Month. To ensure that our employees’ skin is protected throughout the year, we had a mini celebration where employees dressed up in their best beach-themed attire. Two lucky winners were chosen to win a microfiber beach towel, a beach hat, and some sunblock. It was a sun-believable day.
