Observing women not only today but every day
On August 26th, the United States commemorates the 1920 passage of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. This amendment prevents states and the federal government from denying residents the right to vote based on their gender. While this holiday still recognizes voting rights for women, it has come to symbolize much more in recent years. This day also highlights all the women’s organizations worldwide for their tireless efforts to ensure that women have equal access to education and work.
Here are a few ideas for how you can celebrate this special day:
Write a Thank You Letter
Sending a thank-you note to an influential woman in your life can show her how much you appreciate her. It doesn’t have to be long; just be honest and sincere. Take this opportunity to express your gratitude for her presence in your life. A few words of gratitude can go a long way.
Support a Local Business Owned by a Woman
Whether you purchase online or a local small boutique, take the time to support a woman-owned business in your community. Bring your friends, family, and small children along; it’s a great way to inspire the women in your life to pursue their aspirations.
It is important for you to take a stand. You are actively contributing to change by voting. If you are eligible to vote in the United States make sure you are registered to vote in your correct state. Register to vote, sign up to become a poll worker, and check your registration status by visiting The National Association Secretaries of State. Your voice matters.
